Hardtop vs soft top: choosing (and buying used) the right Jeep roof
Roofs are the most-shipped large item we handle. Knowing what to check saves you a return and a freight bill.
Hardtops
Check the freedom panel corners, the header seal, and the rear glass defroster tabs — the tabs are the usual failure point and are expensive to repair.
Confirm you have or can source the correct hardware kit; hardtops rarely ship with all bolts and headliner clips.
Soft tops
Sailcloth is quieter and more durable than standard vinyl. Look at the window clarity — hazed rear windows are the most common reason a used top gets rejected.
Zippers and bow hardware matter more than fabric color. A cheap top with seized zippers is not a bargain.
Shipping and returns
Tops over $1,000 ship free from us. Inspect at delivery and photograph any freight damage before signing — that documentation makes a damage claim straightforward.
